The Sergeant in the Snow by Mario Rigoni Stern

Outside is cold and streets are still covered by snow. I am here in my home in Milan, warm, drinking white coffee and reading "The Sergeant in the Snow" by Mario Rigoni Stern.
I am thinking about the life of the author, how much duress he had to bear fleeing from Russia with his comrades in the Second World War.
